ELKINS FAMILY HISTORY - STARTUP

ELKINS FAMILY HISTORY STARTUP - This site is designed to provide information about the Elkins family. Specifically, this site will concern itself with the descendants of Captain John M. Elkins and his wife Emma Johnson Elkins of West Texas. Emphasis will be placed on research concerning Captain Elkins' son John M. Elkins II and his wife Maggie Alexander Elkins, their descendants and families related by marriage. Captain Elkins is widely recognized as a prominent Texas pioneer and Indian fighter. Elkins served in the Confederate army. He was subsequently captured by the Union and held as a prisoner of war. He later served as a Captain in the Texas Rangers and was the first sheriff and tax collector of Coleman County Texas. Captain Elkins was also the co-author of his autobiography INDIAN FIGHTING ON THE TEXAS FRONTIER. I'm Larry Elkins. I'll be managing this blogsite. My goal is to offer interesting and informative facts to family members and researchers as well as a forum for discussion of the Elkins family history.

    My name is David Raymond Elkins, great, great grandson of George Kindred "Kin" Elkins (1832–1928), who's father is Robert Elkins (1812–1868), and is half brother Captain John M. Elkins. I have a THE JOHN ELKINS FAMILY
    by Mrs. M.G. Elkins, and a manuscript of the "Life on the Texas Frontier", written by
    Captain John M. Elkins, half brother
    to Kind Elkins, sons of Robert Elkins born 1812.

    I'm trying to carry on with investigation as to Robert's ancestry.
    Based on some AncestryProGenealogist research, the following seems likely:
    Father: William H. Elkins - may have been born in Virginia abt 1870
    Brothers:
    Ananias Elkins
    Ralph Elkins
    Goodman Elkins
    Gazaway Elkins

    Perhaps who have additional information about Robert's ancestry that you could share with me.

    I am also seeking descendants of Ralph Elkins, early VA planter (1636-1690) who was the ancestor to many Elkins, who moved to WV, KY, Indiana and other places. If interested and think there is a link- I'e just started a FB group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/259088823070597
